Her Love is Real

Hadley spelled this out the other day, and I thought it deserved a little tribute, in the style of Denise Huxtable and her poem “Their Love is Real.”

Indeed.

When she puts a Barbie Doll in my boot and neglets to tell me about it-

Hadley’s OK.

When she comes into our bedroom in the middle of the night to tell us her blankets fell off her bed-

Hadley’s OK.

When, after I’ve put on what I believe is a good lookin’ outfit, and she looks at me cautiously and says, “Mama, do you like the way you look? -

Hadley’s OK.

When it’s still dark, and I’m sound asleep, and she climbs on the bed and stands there until I realize some three foot being is standing above me -

Hadley’s OK.

When she asks if she can get a toy from a machine at a restaurant and Jesse asks, “Did you bring your allowance?” To which she replies, “Awwww shoot.  I gave it to the church.” -

Hadley’s OK.

When she lets Harper choose the TV show they watch -

Hadley’s OK.

When she watches two kids walk into the library without their parents and asks, “Where is the mamma?” And I say, “They are old enough to go to the library without a parent.”

And she pauses, then says, “Mama, I’ll always want to be with you.” -

Hadley’s OK.
